Why I Wanted To Leave Nigeria Quickly After Handing Over To Soludo – Obiano

EFCC has released Obiano from detention after granting him bail

Former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Chairman of the Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, disclosed this on Monday, stating that the embattled governor has been granted bail.

Bawa made this known while fielding questions from journalists on the sideline of the 5th Annual General Assembly meeting of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa in Abuja.

He added that the commission was waiting for him to perfect his bail conditions.

Obiano, who is under investigation for N42 billion fraud, has been in EFCC custody since Thursday when he was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to leave for the United States.

Asked why the commission has kept the former governor in its custody, beyond the period allowed by the constitution, Bawa said, “Nothing political about the arrest of the former Anambra State Governor, Wille Obiano. He has been granted bail.”

The EFCC boss did not disclose the details of the bail.
