FIFA have approved Ademola Lookman’s nationality switch from England to Nigeria
Amaju Pinnick, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) président, made the announcement in a tweet on his official Twitter account on Thursday,
Pinnick said the Leicester City forward can now represent the Super Eagles if called up as he has now been cleared by FIFA, the world football’s governing body.
The upbeat NFF boss said he is relishing the prospect of seeing the 24-year-old don Super Eagles jersey in the nearest future.
“I’m also glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger, Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved by FIFA,” he tweeted.
“Lookman was part of England’s title win at the 2017 U-20 World Cup & brings a winning mentality to our team. I can’t wait to see him make our Super Eagles that more formidable.”
Lookman was born in Peckham, London, to his Nigerian parents in 1997.
Although he represented England serially across all age-grade, he is yet to make an appearance for the Three Lions.
Currently back in England with Leicester City, after struggling at the likes of Fulham, RasenBallsport Leipzig and Everton in recent years, the 24-year-old has scored three Premier League goals so far this season
He might get his debut when Nigeria face Ghana at Qatar 2022 World Cup qualification play-off billed for next month.
Nigeria have enough options in the flank l, but after chasing Lookman for several years, they’ll surely find a way to include the forward into their plans after his nationality switch was granted by Fifa.
