Willie Obiano, governor of Anambra, has been placed on watchlist by The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The development comes weeks after the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Obiano party, emerged winner of the November 6th Anambra’s gubernatorial election and months before expiration of the governor’s second term in office.
The decision to block the Obiano from travelling to another country is contained in a letter dated November 15 and addressed to the comptroller-general of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
In the letter, the anti-graft agency asked NIS to notify it whenever Obiano is seen attempting to travel out of the country.
It is not clear why the EFCC placed Obiano on its watchlist.
However, sources who are familiar with the development said the governor Obiano is being investigated by the commission.
